Love Beyond Time
He sat beside her on the porch some fifty years ago
With hands held together and faces all aglow.
They were in their twenties, young and full of life
Happy and contented, living as husband and wife.
They faced each day with renewed gladness and compassion—
As time slowly passed, season after season.
Wrinkles now cracked and lined their once smooth faces.
Yet they still live each day only with loving praises.
Sadly, the aging wife got sick and soon passed away.
But the husband said with just a tear, “...as all men will someday.”
He continued doing his job and taking care of their home.
As one by one their children grew up and moved out on their own.
Tonight he sits by himself underneath the big starry sky.
Remembering this very day his wife gave in and died.
But there was no frown, no tear, not one little trace-
Of sadness, grief or desperation etched on his wrinkled face.
He now feels weak, used up; his bones are weakened from age.
His pains, his worries; alas, all now begin to fade.
Just a few moments left, he gazed at the sky and smiled at the moon...
And with his last breath, whispered to the wind, “We’ll be together soon.”
